Wednesday, 05. November 2008 Easy integration of IS1 systems into asset management and condition monitoring solutions

 

R. STAHL provides a Device Type Manager (DTM) for the IS1 remote I/O system which enables users to fully configure, parameterize and administrate the entire system – all I/O modules as well as the CPM unit (CPU and power module) – by means of an FDT-capable program. All data about the system and connected HART field devices is thus made available for analysis through suitable diagnostic tools and asset management systems. An integrated condition monitoring functionality allows for cyclic monitoring of connected HART field devices, provided that this is supported by the FDT frame. Moreover, a growing number of control systems provides direct support for FDT/DTM technology through integrated features. The IS1 DTM was designed to completely replace conventional solutions with GSD files for Profibus slave systems – a DTM-compatible DP V0 master exclusively uses the new DTM for the parameterization of and communication with IS1 components.

The modular DTM design allows for a flexible configuration of IS1 systems and facilitates extensions and modifications of existing structures via the frame application. Configuration data and parameters can be changed during operation without halting the process. Diagnostic and I/O status signals can be read and written without a connected automation system, which is especially beneficial during start-up and error diagnosis. Further functions allow users to generate an audit trail, print labels for I/O modules and import or export parameter data.
