Explosion-protected EXLUX 6000 series luminaires for zone 1 withstand wind speeds of up to 187 km/h

EXLUX 6000 luminaires for hazardous areas
withstand even gale-force storms up to 187 km/h

R. STAHL's EXLUX 6000 luminaires for hazardous areas have been subjected to extensive wind tunnel tests. Withstanding wind speeds of up to 187 km/h without sustaining any damage, they proved resistant to the strongest possible air flow generated in the test stand at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Two pole-mounted models from the proven lamp series went through a battery of tests at the university's Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace without any functional impairment. Suitable for use in zone 1 hazardous areas, the Ex e luminaires are used e.g. in the oil and gas industry. They are installed as standard lighting solutions or as emergency lights with either integral battery or central battery systems.

The ongoing trend towards offshore production in increasingly hostile environments imposes more demanding requirements on the technology used on platforms. More often than not, machines and systems must not only withstand frequent strong winds, but also more extreme weather conditions such as gale-force hurricanes. Load tests with a wind speed of 160 km/h have been established as a benchmark for an adequate degree of cyclone and hurricane safety. During these tests, which include simulated high-level wind shears, the test object must withstand air flows even in unfavourable mounting positions. By passing these tests, the EXLUX series has proven sufficiently robust and stable for such applications. This new proof of suitability complements various other certifications, such as ATEX, IECEx, VNIIF, FM, CSA and GL (German Lloyd for offshore applications) for normal conditions and extreme temperatures, which the light fittings had previously obtained as well.
